JOB PURPOSE: 

This role is responsible for development of databases in the environment in accordance with the set standards to meet business objectives. Work includes a broad range of complex technical or professional activities, in a variety of contexts. Investigates, defines, and resolves complex issues.

REPORTS TO:  Software Development Manager.

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None.

INDIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None.

BUDGET AND RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITY: None.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advise and provide technical expertise on database development framework and processes.
  • Analyses data requirements, to establish, modify or maintain a data model and interpret model into a database schema.
  • Evaluate potential solutions, demonstrate, install and commission selected products.
  • Interact with data models, object relational database mapping and producing reports.
  • Develop and enable enterprise reporting and business intelligence services.
  • Collaborate with IT project management office, software developers and infrastructure specialists in IT project delivery.
  • Responsible for the delivery of software-based enterprise-wide projects.
  • Advise and support data managers and statisticians in execution of dynamic data tasks.
  • Performance tune all database environments to all systems are available and ensure the use of latest technology.
  • Conduct research on development of improved frameworks and technologies for database efficiencies.
  • Advice on department resources regarding recruitment and staffing.
  • Ensure that the appropriate disaster recovery measures are in place; and
  • Advice and review backups and recovery policies and SOP’s

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or in related specialization of study
  • Relevant DBA Certification e.g. OCA, OCP, MCSD, MCSE, MYSQL for DBA, AGILE, IBM analytics.
  • 5 years overall experience and out of which at least two (2) years should be at supervisory level
  • Experience in Data management for scientific studies
  • Advanced knowledge of computer languages.
  • Expert knowledge of writing program documentation.
  • Strong understanding of the software development cycle.
  • Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate.
  • Experience in containerization and visualization
