The overall purpose of this post is to undertake research under the human infection (challenge) platform. This will need to be undertaken under good clinical practice ensuring compliance with regulatory, statutory and programme policies including other related clinical and/or research activities and execution of research studies.

The post holder will be responsible for day-to-day research activities, develop research ideas, and oversee a team of staff. The post holder will work as lead on specific area of work; contribute to tasks preparatory to the project(s), where applicable, to tasks including developing and submitting protocols, developing study work plans, organising, and conducting training for project-specific staff; and ensure compliance of all study staff to good practices and procedures. Although these are the primary responsibilities, the post-holder will also be involved in higher level responsibilities for ensuring all activities and procedures are carried out to quality standards, managing, and leading a team whilst expected to share the load and as guided by the PI.

This post is open to qualified PhD holders in a relevant field with research experience and will be funded for a three-year period. The post-holder is expected to develop research methods and to execute programme management as well as roles in data management, sample/specimen management, data analysis, and report writing and scientific dissemination through publication writing and presentations. The post is demanding, involving attention to detail and timescales, and strong engagement with various stakeholders and collaborators

This role is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating strategic operational and administrative aspects of an initiative focused on development of human resource capability in vaccine biomanufacturing and other key elements of the vaccine ecosystem in Africa. The post is based in Kenya at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) but involves extensive interactions with collaborators in academia and vaccine manufacturing globally. Suitable candidates will be highly driven, ambitious, and with a strong passion for vaccine research and development in Africa. This is a full-time appointment for a period of 24 months initially, with the possibility of extension.

KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) is one of the leading research centres in Africa. The Programme engages in a wide range of research on the main causes of ill health in Africa. We are seeking to appoint an early postdoctoral researcher with a PhD completed in the field of bioinformatics or molecular biology to work in the Biosciences department. The successful candidate will be part of a research team seeking to understand HIV B-cell biology to inform HIV vaccine development. The candidate will be involved in bioinformatics analysis of HIV-antigen specific immunoglobulin gene usage and naïve B cell repertoires mainly in African populations. The incumbent will also provide bioinformatics support for other ongoing immunological work within the group. He/she will require solid knowledge of bioinformatics, be able to write and execute code and develop custom analysis suites for the project. Additional knowledge in molecular biology techniques will be an added advantage. This work is part of a five-year collaborative programme with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (2022 - 2026).

The post holder will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of the clinical trials and clinical research activities, develop research ideas. The post holder will work as clinical lead on the project(s) to ensure safety and clinical care of all study volunteers; contribute to tasks preparatory to the project(s), where applicable, to tasks including developing and submitting protocols, developing study work plans, organising, and conducting training for project-specific staff; and ensure compliance of all study staff to good clinical practices and procedures. The post-holder will aid day-to-day organisation and coordination of the research studies and trials, leading safety monitoring on clinical trials, lead and contribute to protocol and SOP development, and day-to-day supervision of clinical staff. Although these are the primary responsibilities, the post-holder will also be involved in higher level responsibilities for ensuring all clinical activities and procedures are carried out to quality standards, managing, and leading the clinical team whilst expected to share the load and as guided by the PI.

This is a senior level position.

Initiates Enterprise system development practices within the programme. Influences industry-based models for the development of new and existing applications. Develops effective implementation and maintenance plans which are consistent with business needs.

Reporting to the Executive Director for KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP), you will play a leading role in the management of KWTRP and have joint responsibility, with the Director, for the development of its strategic direction. You will be expected to act for the Executive Director in their absence. In addition, you will have primary responsibility for a programme of independent externally funded research projects and will lead a research group, delegating ongoing responsibilities, contributing to the overarching vision and managing staff performance.

The post involves supporting laboratory molecular assays and analysis in the department with a focus on SARS-CoV-2. The ARO will optimise the assays, lead the QC processes and be involved in any analysis of the data which will be analysed with the help of the PI and colleagues.

This is a middle level position for this opening with higher levels of Autonomy, Influence and Complexity. Following SFIA 6 framework, this position is rated at Level 4. The candidate would advise on the design, creation, testing and documenting of new and amended programs from supplied specifications to meet programme’s business objectives in accordance with agreed standards.

KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) collaborates with MOH and other partners in a project called the Clinical Information Network (CIN), which promotes better collection and use of paediatric inpatient information for quality improvement, surveillance, and research.

We seek to employ a data manager to support a new study that involves development and testing of a digital tool for recognizing sick children in two hospitals currently part of CIN.  The data manager will work with the data management team at KWTRP and its collaborating institution to develop and support a system for data capture and support IT and data collection at the study sites.  This job will require familiarity with REDCap, ability to develop and support digital data collection tools using REDCap, and knowledge in IT to be able to support use of digital patient tracking.  They will have an indirect supervisory role of the study team involved in data collection at the hospitals and will report directly to the senior data manager.  They will also be expected to take on roles within the wider Nairobi Programme of the KWTRP as required.

The post holder will draw on experience from the fields of health research/education/public engagement/social science to support innovation and excellence in the implementation, evaluation and research on community and public engagement (CPE) with health research. This will extend to research on adolescent health (or a related field).

A significant proportion of the work will be to provide leadership and development for the KWTRP School Engagement Programme (SEP).
