The main purpose of this job will be thawing malaria parasites previously frozen in liquid nitrogen, extracting DNA and then quantifying parasite and human DNA in these samples. Additionally, the job holder will be expected to assist in arranging shipment of DNA samples to the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute for whole genome sequencing.

In addition, KWTRP has a strong commitment towards developing local research leadership. Most of the capacity building activities at KWTRP are managed through the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL) with funding from the Wellcome Trust and DFID. The aim of IDeAL is to strengthen research capacity in Africa through research training schemes ranging from attachments for school leavers and undergraduates, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, PhD studentships and postdoctoral fellowships.
We are now seeking to appoint a Programme Manager who can provide effective and efficient day-to-day administration and management of IDeAL.

Responsible for providing leadership and coordination of all clinical trials activities in the Programme, and to oversee and coordinate monitoring, project management, data base support and sponsorship for investigator-led clinical trials on Phase I, II and III.
The post would best suit a doctor with clinical research experience with capacity to develop their own research interests as well as support clinical trials led by colleagues.

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
This is an exciting and challenging position for a game developer to work on an exciting, innovative training platform for healthcare workers in low-income settings called LIFE. LIFE (Life-Saving Instruction for Emergencies) is a mobile and Virtual Reality (VR) platform that trains healthcare workers to identify and manage medical emergencies to save lives using low-cost smartphones. We are looking for a creative game designer/3D artist who will join our small team to develop immersive mobile and VR medical training simulations using Unreal Engine for iOS and Android platforms. The role will require working independently as a member of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers to contribute to design and development activities required to iteratively build and test the LIFE platform.

To plan, develop, implement and coordinate operational and administrative aspects of outbreak pathogen vaccine trials
The position holder will work on the NIH-supported ‘Tambua Mapema Plus’ trial evaluating the impact of a novel screening programme to detect prevalent and acute HIV infection in adult patients and their partners seeking urgent care at 6 health facilities in Mtwapa and Shanzu. HIV-infected participants and their infected partners will be enrolled in an immediate treatment cohort at KEMRI-Mtwapa. Any identified HIV-negative partner will be enrolled in a PrEP cohort at KEMRI-Mtwapa. Field data collections will run for 2-years. The candidate will join a dynamic team that conducts different clinical epidemiology studies with key populations at the KEMRI clinic in Mtwapa.
This position’s main role is to plan, coordinate and implement internal Programme training for interface staff across our 3 hubs with the overall aim of strengthening the science and ethics of research conducted across the programme. The job holder will work closely with Principal Investigators and Study Coordinators to identify training gaps for Programme Field Workers (FWs), as well as other interface staff. He/She will also be responsible for supporting development of training and supervision materials. The job holder will also work closely with the Community Liaison Group to develop training materials, including conducting trainings for relevant community groups and community representatives.
